Also known as nana-iro tōgarashi  (seven colour chilli pepper) or simply shichimi, is a common Japanese spice mixture containing seven ingredients.

It dates back at least to the 17th century, when it was produced by herb dealers in Edo, current day Tokyo.

It's not super spicy, the seaweed lends umami notes, sesame seeds bring texture to the table, orange zest adds floral, sweet notes, and ginger contributes a bit of zing.
